Bengaluru: In a major push to improve urban hygiene, the Central City Municipal Corporation carried out an intensive sanitation drive across Central Bengaluru, deploying over 108 sanitation workers and heavy machinery to clean 5.6 km of roads and footpaths.
The large-scale operation covered six Assembly constituencies and resulted in the removal of 55 tractor loads of waste. Authorities also confirmed that 20 major garbage black spots were completely eliminated during the campaign.
The drive focused on areas with long-pending garbage accumulation and locations identified as high-risk for public health concerns.
Heavy deployment and machinery support
More than 108 pourakarmikas and sanitation staff participated in the operation, working across busy roads, commercial zones and residential neighbourhoods. To expedite the clearance of accumulated waste, the corporation deployed 35 tractors and 7 JCB machines.
Officials said the use of heavy machinery enabled faster removal of debris and solid waste, particularly in areas where garbage had built up over extended periods. The combined effort ensured thorough cleaning of footpaths and road stretches spanning 5.6 km.
The removal of 55 tractor loads of waste marks one of the most extensive sanitation drives undertaken in the central zone in recent months.
Constituency-wise cleaning efforts
The sanitation campaign was carried out in six key Assembly constituencies, with targeted interventions in garbage-prone areas.
Chamarajpet
In Chamarajpet constituency, teams cleaned stretches around Sangam Circle and Padarayanapura Road, clearing accumulated waste and restoring pedestrian access.
Chickpet
In Chickpet constituency, special cleaning operations were conducted in Ward 118 along H. Siddaiah Road and surrounding lanes under the Kempegowda Nagar sub-division. The area, known for its dense commercial activity, witnessed comprehensive waste removal from roads and footpaths.
Gandhinagar
In Gandhinagar constituency, sanitation workers undertook intensive cleaning in front of KC General Hospital, along Anjaneya Temple Road 2nd Cross, and near Rajashankar Kulla Park. These high-footfall areas had reported recurring waste accumulation.
Shanthinagar
In Shanthinagar constituency, teams covered AK Colony, parts of the Domlur ward sub-division and surrounding residential pockets, addressing persistent waste buildup.
Shivajinagar
In Shivajinagar constituency, extensive cleaning was carried out around Russell Market and Chandni Chowk, two of the busiest commercial hubs in the city. Authorities said clearing these areas was critical to maintaining hygiene standards in densely crowded zones.
C.V. Raman Nagar
In C.V. Raman Nagar constituency, sanitation workers focused on Murugeshpalya Church Street and Syndicate Bank Road in Konena Agrahara, improving conditions in both residential and commercial stretches.
Focus on sustained cleanliness
Officials stated that the campaign was not only aimed at clearing visible waste but also at preventing the recurrence of black spots through sustained monitoring. Teams identified garbage-prone zones and undertook targeted clean-up measures to ensure long-term impact.
Civic authorities emphasised that public participation is essential to maintaining cleanliness. Residents and shopkeepers were urged to avoid littering and to cooperate with waste segregation norms.
With 20 black spots eliminated and over 5.6 km of roads and footpaths restored, the sanitation drive marks a significant step towards improving public health and urban aesthetics in Central Bengaluru. Authorities indicated that similar drives would continue in other zones to ensure consistent cleanliness standards across the city.
