Bengaluru: Commuters on Bengaluru’s busy Palace Road were left startled after a cobra slithered onto the carriageway and remained in the middle of the road for nearly 30 to 40 minutes, disrupting traffic on Tuesday evening.

The unexpected appearance of the snake caused vehicles to slow down as motorists and pedestrians kept a safe distance while waiting for it to move away.

Cobra’s presence creates traffic disruption

According to eyewitnesses, the cobra sat in the middle of the road with its hood fully spread, bringing traffic to a temporary halt. Videos of the incident, widely shared on social media, showed the reptile calmly occupying the roadway as commuters watched from a distance.

The unusual sight quickly attracted attention online, with several users describing the cobra as Bengaluru’s “newest traffic controller” and sharing humorous reactions to the incident.

Police ensure safe rescue

After receiving information about the snake, police reached the spot and coordinated efforts to safely rescue it without causing harm to either the reptile or the public.

The cobra was eventually removed from the road and relocated to safety. Traffic resumed soon after the rescue operation was completed.

The incident once again highlighted the occasional movement of wildlife into urban areas, particularly during the monsoon season when snakes are more frequently spotted in residential neighbourhoods and on roads.

Authorities have advised the public to avoid approaching or provoking snakes if encountered and instead inform the police or authorised wildlife rescue personnel to ensure the safety of both people and the animals.
