Bengaluru: A new chapter began for military healthcare in Bengaluru as the foundation stone was laid for a cutting-edge multi-storied hospital complex at the Command Hospital Air Force. The ceremony took place on Tuesday, with Air Marshal Nagesh Kapoor, AOC-in-C of the Training Command, unveiling the stone. He was joined by Air Marshal Sandeep Thareja, Director General Medical Services (Air) from Air HQ.

The existing Command Hospital, a 157-year-old structure, currently manages around 3 lakh outpatients and 21,000 inpatient admissions each year. However, the rising demand and rapid evolution in medical technology have made it necessary to develop a future-ready healthcare infrastructure.

The upcoming complex will be an advanced 800-bed medical facility featuring 16 modular operation theatres, modern ICUs, and top-tier diagnostic centres. It will be equipped with high-tech imaging tools, laboratory services, and a pneumatic chute system for swift internal logistics.

Patient accessibility has been prioritised through intelligent design—placing outpatient departments on lower levels, and incorporating spacious elevators and escalators, including provisions for differently-abled individuals. A fully digitised hospital information system is also planned to streamline services and reduce wait times.

Designed with sustainability in mind, the facility will meet GRIHA 3-star environmental standards. It will include features such as rainwater harvesting, a 1 MW solar power unit, and an efficient effluent treatment system to ensure a green, eco-conscious hospital environment.
