A Karnataka Congress worker, Hyder Ali, was brutally killed in Bengaluru early Sunday morning, authorities reported. Ali, known for his close ties with Congress MLA N.A. Harris, was ambushed near Garuda Mall in Ashoknagar while returning home to Anepalya on a two-wheeler with a friend around 1 a.m. A gang trailed him before cornering and fatally attacking him. His companion sustained injuries and was hospitalized.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central Division) H.T. Shekhar stated that Ali was not an active politician, though his elder brother was involved in social work. He was immediately taken to Bowring Hospital, where doctors confirmed his death upon arrival.
As news of the incident spread, groups of Ali’s supporters gathered near the hospital, some wielding weapons, raising fears of unrest and public panic.
Ali had a history of criminal cases, though he had no known offenses since 2022. Law enforcement suspects the killing might be linked to ongoing gang conflicts.
A case has been registered, and the police are actively investigating, following various leads to track down the assailants. Authorities are on high alert to prevent any further disturbances.
