Bengaluru South City Corporation Commissioner K N Ramesh has issued a stern warning to solid waste management contractors, stating that they could face blacklisting if garbage collection problems in Padmanabhanagar constituency are not resolved within a week.

The warning was issued during a review meeting chaired by Leader of the Opposition and Padmanabhanagar MLA R Ashoka. The meeting was attended by civic officials, representatives of Bengaluru Solid Waste Management Limited (BSWML), contractors, waste collection vehicle operators and local residents.

Residents raise concerns over irregular collection

Citizens from Kumaraswamy Layout, Padmanabhanagar and Banashankari complained about inconsistent door-to-door garbage collection services. Residents alleged that waste collection vehicles frequently failed to visit homes as scheduled, leading to inconvenience and sanitation concerns.

Responding to the complaints, officials directed contractors to ensure an adequate number of waste collection autos are deployed in every ward without exception.

Daily monitoring and accountability measures

R Ashoka and Commissioner Ramesh instructed that door-to-door garbage collection must be carried out daily between 6 am and 9 am. Collection staff have also been asked to maintain attendance records as proof of service delivery.

To improve accountability, Ashoka directed that the contact details of both drivers and contractors be prominently displayed on every garbage collection vehicle. This will allow residents to directly report service deficiencies.

The MLA also announced that local volunteers would be engaged to monitor the movement of garbage collection vehicles. Daily attendance records will be submitted to his office for verification.

One-week deadline issued

Officials further instructed that payments be deducted from contractors operating fewer vehicles than required under their contracts.

Commissioner Ramesh gave contractors a one-week deadline to address all pending complaints.

“If public complaints continue even after a week, the contractors concerned will be blacklisted,” he warned.

The move is expected to strengthen waste management services and improve cleanliness standards across the constituency.
