Bengaluru: A corporate couple has captured the attention of social media after revealing that relocating from Bengaluru to Himachal Pradesh’s Manali helped them save more than ₹30,000 every month while enjoying a slower and less stressful lifestyle.
Anjali and Naman, who document their journey on Instagram through the account @anjali.aur.naman, said their move was never driven by financial reasons. Instead, they wanted to experience slow travel while continuing their corporate careers through remote work.
Move was about lifestyle, not savings
In a viral video that has garnered nearly one lakh views, Anjali explained that the couple chose Manali to escape the fast-paced lifestyle, rising living costs and constant work pressure associated with metropolitan cities.
“We didn’t move here to save money; we moved here to experience slow travel while keeping our corporate jobs,” she said, adding that the monthly savings came as an unexpected benefit.
Lower expenses added up quickly
The couple revealed that their monthly rent dropped from ₹45,000 in Bengaluru to ₹28,000 in Manali, saving them ₹17,000 every month. Working remotely also eliminated daily commuting costs, reducing another ₹3,000 in monthly expenses.
Without frequent office coffee runs, dinners and snacks, they saved around ₹7,500 more each month. They also found themselves spending far less on weekend outings, which had earlier cost them between ₹5,000 and ₹6,000 as a way to unwind from the pressures of city life.
“We didn’t choose remote work to spend less; we chose it to live differently. The saving was just a bonus,” Anjali said.
Social media users react
The post sparked widespread discussion online, with many users asking how they secured permanent remote jobs and whether such a lifestyle was practical.
While several praised the couple for prioritising work-life balance, others questioned whether living in a quieter hill town would suit everyone. Responding to queries, Naman said Anjali found her remote role through LinkedIn, while he transitioned from a full-time office job to a remote consulting role within the same company.
The couple’s story has reignited conversations about remote work, rising urban living costs and the growing appeal of a slower, more balanced lifestyle.
