Bengaluru: The Karnataka Department of Horticulture on Thursday inaugurated the much-awaited Cubbon Park Flower Show, modelled on the iconic biannual Lalbagh Flower Show. The event, which has been introduced as a new floral attraction for the city, witnessed an impressive turnout on its opening day, signalling strong public interest.
Strong opening-day footfall
According to the Department of Horticulture, a total of 33,500 visitors — including 15,000 adults and 18,500 children — attended the show on Thursday. The department generated ₹2.24 lakh in revenue and anticipates that overall footfall will cross two lakh before the event concludes.
Entry for adults was free until the inauguration ceremony, while children enjoyed free entry throughout the day, contributing significantly to the high turnout.
Floral exhibits inspired by wildlife and heritage
The Cubbon Park Flower Show features 50 major floral displays, showcasing a diverse array of sculptures crafted entirely from flowers. These include:
- Tigers
- Leopards
- Elephants
- Butterflies
- Dolphins
- Fruit-themed floral installations
- A flower-decorated replica of the Hampi chariot
More than 35,000 potted flowering plants, including several exotic varieties sourced from Indo American Hybrid Seeds and well-known private nurseries across Bengaluru, have been meticulously arranged across the venue.
Events, activities and cultural programmes
Visitors can explore a wide range of interactive and artistic activities scheduled throughout the event. The flower show includes:
- Ikebana demonstrations
- Bonsai displays
- Fruit and vegetable carving sessions
- Thai art and Janapada art showcases
- Fancy dress competitions
- Rangoli and drawing contests for children
- Art exhibitions open to the public
In addition, military weapons and equipment displays have been introduced as part of the educational lineup. Daily performances by the police and military bands at the historic Bandstand are expected to draw significant crowds.
