Mumbai-born platform Cultivate Art, which has championed emerging artists since 2017, has now opened its first permanent gallery space in Bengaluru’s Cunningham Road. Nestled within the iconic Abstract Art Gallery, a 23-year-old institution for fine art and antiques, this expansion marks a new chapter for the collective.
“We’ve been curating exhibitions nationwide, but this space gives us a rooted presence. Bengaluru appealed to us for its openness to contemporary art and access to new audiences,” says Farah Siddiqui, founder and curator.
The newly launched 1,000 sq. ft. space debuted with ‘Young Collector’s Weekend Global’, featuring the work of 18 artists from across India. Unbound by a central theme, the exhibition allows each artist’s voice and style to shine independently — with a special focus on emerging and mid-career artists.
Among standout contributors is Sareena Khemka, whose collection ‘Where All Darkness Resides’ explores urban decay through somber tones and architectural imagery. Textile artist Hansika Sharma weaves tales in indigo, merging dyed cotton and jute with embroidery in abstract forms. Meanwhile, Megha Madan from Delhi layers rice paper on black canvas in ‘Many Emotions’, evoking stillness and quiet introspection.
The collection caters to a range of buyers, with artworks priced from ₹40,000 to ₹10 lakh. The current show runs until June 5, with Siddiqui planning the next exhibit post-monsoon.
