The south interior districts of Karnataka are bracing for intense rainfall as Cyclone Fengal continues its impact. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for Bengaluru and nearby areas through Tuesday, December 3, warning of possible downpours exceeding 100 mm in some places.

Over the weekend, Bengaluru experienced cloudy skies and light rain. The city recorded a maximum temperature of 22.6°C on Saturday, while the minimum dipped to 19.5°C early Sunday. Forecasters predict central Bengaluru’s nighttime temperatures will range from 17°C to 18°C in the coming days, with parts of North Karnataka potentially seeing lows of 10°C to 12°C.

As of Sunday morning, scattered rainfall was reported in Bengaluru and neighboring districts, including Kolar, Chikkaballapur, and Bengaluru Rural. During this year’s Northeast monsoon season, Karnataka saw surplus rainfall—209 mm compared to the usual 173 mm—despite a dry spell in November. October contributed significantly to this 21% increase, though November recorded a 42% deficit.

Cyclone Fengal, which made landfall recently, has moved slowly over the north Tamil Nadu-Puducherry coast. Moving at just 7 km/h over the past six hours, the system is expected to shift westward and weaken into a deep depression.

The state remains on high alert, with heavy rainfall expected to persist. Stay informed and cautious during this critical period.
