Cyclone Fengal has brought heavy rainfall to north Tamil Nadu and parts of Karnataka. The IMD has issued an orange alert for Bengaluru Urban, Bengaluru Rural, Ramanagara, and Chikkaballapura, forecasting over 100mm of rain in the next 48 hours. Southern interior districts like Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, and Kodagu are also bracing for heavy rainfall through Wednesday.
In Kolar, continuous rain prompted Deputy Commissioner Akram Pasha to declare a holiday for schools and colleges, with a promise to compensate for lost days later. Traffic on the Chennai-Bengaluru highway has thinned, and many shops closed early as rain disrupted normalcy.
Bengaluru has seen a notable drop in temperatures, with maximums hovering around 22°C and minimums near 19°C. The IMD has predicted cloudy skies and light to moderate rain throughout the week. Recent temperatures, ranging from 16°C to 19°C, hint at an early and potentially harsher winter this year.
IMD scientists note that cooler weather is amplified by rain and high humidity, marking an early onset of Bengaluru’s winter, typically lasting mid-December to early February.
