Another disturbing account from Bengaluru has reignited concerns over language divides and ‘North vs South’ tensions. A Reddit post recently went viral, where a user detailed witnessing race-based harassment targeted at a North Indian small business owner.
According to the Redditor, the incident occurred near HSR Layout, where a North Indian man running a pizza cart was reportedly abused by a local dosa vendor. The dosa stall owner allegedly unleashed derogatory slurs in the local language, calling him a “bloody North Indian” and attempting to drive him away simply because he had parked his cart on the same street.
The Redditor further mentioned this wasn’t an isolated event. He recounted a similar case involving Turkish House, another non-local food outlet, which reportedly faced such intense hostility that locals tried to cut off their supply chain to push them out of business.
Frustrated, the Redditor labeled Bengaluru as becoming increasingly hostile towards outsiders, stating, “This city is slowly turning into one of the worst places to live if you’re not from the South.” His post, titled “Harassment of North Indian Small Business Owners in Bangalore – My Experience Today”, rapidly gained traction, drawing hundreds of reactions.
While many empathized, some users defended the city, attributing such behavior to a few aggressive individuals rather than the majority.
Times Now, however, couldn’t verify the authenticity of the Reddit claims.
