Bengaluru: A 32-year-old mini-goods vehicle driver from Karnataka was allegedly beaten to death during an attempted robbery near Hosur in Tamil Nadu, while his younger brother managed to escape and alert nearby residents.

The deceased, identified as Keshava, hailed from Bagepalli in Chikkaballapur district and worked as a driver for a logistics company. His younger brother, Mohan, who accompanied him on the trip, survived the attack.

Attack after delivery trip

According to police, the brothers had completed a delivery and parked their mini-goods vehicle by the roadside to rest for the night. They were awakened by noises after four unidentified men allegedly attempted to steal the vehicle’s tyres.

When Keshava stepped out to investigate, the four men, who had reportedly arrived in a car, allegedly attacked the brothers with iron rods and demanded money.

Keshava reportedly told the assailants that he was not carrying cash and even offered to transfer the money online. However, the attackers allegedly continued the assault.

Brother escapes, victim succumbs

Fearing for his life, Mohan fled the scene and ran to a nearby house to seek help. During this time, the attackers allegedly struck Keshava repeatedly on the head before fleeing.

The critically injured driver was first taken to the government hospital in Sarjapur. However, as no doctor was available, he was referred to Attibele Hospital and later shifted towards a private hospital in Chandapura. He succumbed to his injuries while being transported.

Police launch hunt for accused

The victim’s family initially approached the Suryanagar Police Station to file a complaint but were informed that the crime had occurred within Tamil Nadu’s jurisdiction.

Tamil Nadu Police have since registered a case of murder and attempted robbery and launched a search for the four unidentified suspects. Further investigation is underway to identify and apprehend those responsible.
