Bengaluru: The Bengaluru Traffic Police registered 517 cases of drunk driving during a week-long enforcement drive, highlighting continued concerns over dangerous driving and road safety in the city.
Over 35,000 vehicles checked
The special drive was conducted between August 10 and 16 across the limits of all 53 traffic police stations in Bengaluru. Traffic personnel checked 35,175 vehicles during the operation.
Of those checked, 517 motorists were booked for driving under the influence of alcohol, and their driving licences were seized. Police also registered 146 cases against motorists accused of excessive speed and negligent driving.
Police intensify action against violations
The enforcement drive resulted in ₹14.80 lakh being collected in fines for traffic violations during the week. The action forms part of continued efforts by the traffic police to curb dangerous driving practices and improve road discipline.
Bengaluru has witnessed several enforcement drives targeting drunk driving and speeding this year. A previous week-long drive in March resulted in 616 drunk driving cases and 279 overspeeding cases.
Road safety remains the priority
Traffic officials have urged motorists to follow road safety rules and avoid driving after consuming alcohol. Drunk driving can place not only the offender but also passengers, pedestrians and other road users at serious risk.
The Bengaluru Traffic Police has also warned that driving under the influence beyond the permissible alcohol limit can lead to legal action, including imprisonment or fines.
The latest enforcement figures underline the need for responsible driving and sustained public awareness to prevent avoidable accidents and make Bengaluru’s roads safer.
