A routine vehicle transfer turned chaotic in Bengaluru after a showroom employee allegedly drove under the influence of alcohol and crashed a brand-new car into four vehicles, leaving a pedestrian injured.

The incident took place near a car showroom in Vigneshwar Nagar under the jurisdiction of Mahadevapura traffic police. Authorities said the accused has been identified as Abhilash.

Vehicle transfer ends in chaos

According to police, several employees had been assigned to move cars from the company’s godown to the showroom. During the process, Abhilash allegedly stopped to meet friends and consumed alcohol before resuming the drive.

Despite reportedly being advised not to drive, he continued behind the wheel and later lost control of the vehicle, crashing into multiple cars parked or moving on the road.

Pedestrian suffers leg fracture

Police said a pedestrian identified as Ramesh sustained a fracture to his leg in the collision and was shifted to a nearby private hospital for treatment.

Following the crash, local residents allegedly confronted and assaulted the accused before police personnel intervened. He was also treated for injuries.

Case registered

Police have booked the accused under relevant provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act and sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita relating to rash driving and endangering public safety.

The incident has once again raised concerns over drunken driving and the need for stricter vehicle handling protocols by automobile outlets.

Road safety warning

Officials continue to urge motorists and businesses to ensure that only authorised and fit individuals operate vehicles on public roads.
