Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar announced on Wednesday that the BBMP will begin doorstep delivery of draft e-khata documents starting July 1, beginning with a pilot campaign in Byatarayanapura constituency. This initiative aims to distribute around 20 lakh e-khata copies across Bengaluru.
The campaign will first target Revenue Minister Krishna Byre Gowda’s constituency, where 25,000 documents are ready for delivery. Bengaluru currently has about 25 lakh properties, but only five lakh property owners have received their e-khatas so far. The campaign will run for a month.
The announcement came after a closed-door meeting involving Congress MLAs and senior officials from civic agencies, where MLAs expressed concern over delays in issuing e-khatas, particularly for apartment owners, and urged the government to release development grants and tackle the city’s mounting garbage problems.
However, executing the plan may prove challenging. BBMP lacks a comprehensive address database, which could hinder effective delivery. While the doorstep campaign may assist those unable to locate their draft e-khatas online, it does not resolve issues related to final e-khata issuance, a process that continues to frustrate many property owners.
Ministers K.J. George, Krishna Byre Gowda, Zameer Ahmed Khan, Byrathi Suresh, and heads of agencies like the BDA and BSWML were present at the meeting, underscoring the campaign’s significance and the complexity of resolving Bengaluru’s civic challenges.
