Bengaluru is experiencing an early onset of winter this year, with temperatures dipping earlier than usual, causing residents to pull out their sweaters and jackets. Over the past few days, the minimum temperatures in the city have hovered around 15.5°C to 16°C, which is a noticeable drop for this time of year. Typically, winter in Bengaluru begins in December and lasts until early February, but this year, the cold weather has arrived ahead of schedule, and experts predict that it may be harsher than usual.

Srinivas Reddy, the retired director of the Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre (KSNDMC), mentioned that the winter could be more severe than in previous years. The cold spell is not limited to Bengaluru; northern Karnataka districts like Bidar and Vijayapura are also experiencing unusually low temperatures, with minimums reaching around 12°C. In some areas, temperatures could decline by another 3°C to 4°C in the coming months, with places like Bidar potentially experiencing mornings below 10°C.

Meteorologists attribute the cold weather to the La Niña phenomenon, which is linked to lower-than-normal Pacific Ocean surface temperatures. This atmospheric condition has been contributing to the chill, particularly affecting temperature patterns across the region.

Bengaluru’s weather currently features moderate temperatures with daytime highs of around 28°C and lows of 16°C, accompanied by a humidity level of 49%. The city is also expected to experience some rainfall on November 26 and 27. With the winter season progressing, temperatures are anticipated to drop further in both Bengaluru and other parts of Karnataka.
