In a deeply disturbing case from Parappana Agrahara, Bengaluru, a 35-year-old man has been arrested for the kidnapping and murder of an eight-year-old boy, police confirmed on Thursday.
The victim, M Ramananda, was allegedly assaulted and strangled by B Mattur, who was returning home intoxicated on the evening of May 6. According to DCP Sarah Fathima (South East Division), the boy was alone at the time as his mother was away at work. Mattur then stuffed the child’s body into a bag and disposed of it near Rayasandra Lake.
Both the victim’s and accused’s families are originally from Bihar and had settled in Bengaluru for work.
When Ramananda didn’t return home, his family filed a missing person’s report. During the police investigation, neighbors reported seeing Mattur acting suspiciously — carrying a large bag late at night and returning hours later — prompting questioning by authorities.
The breakthrough came when Mattur’s own daughter informed police about what had transpired, leading to his detention. Under interrogation, he confessed to the crime.
Mattur has now been booked under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
DCP Fathima emphasized the importance of community vigilance in solving the case. “The daughter’s courage and neighbors’ alertness were key in delivering justice swiftly,” she noted.
The incident has shocked the local community and highlighted concerns over child safety, especially in neighborhoods where parents are away for long hours due to work.
