Bengaluru: Panic gripped Sonnenahalli in Jnanabharathi on Saturday morning after an empty dynamite stick was found near a footpath on Vijaya Hospital Road, prompting residents to alert the police.

The incident came to light around 9.30 am when passersby noticed an object resembling an explosive device lying near the footpath. Concerned that it could pose a threat, they immediately informed the police.

Bomb squad confirms stick was empty

Police personnel rushed to the spot along with the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) and examined the suspicious object.

After inspection, BDDS personnel confirmed that it was an empty dynamite stick used in quarrying activities and did not contain any explosive material. The squad subsequently disposed of the object.

Although the inspection established that there was no immediate explosive threat, the discovery raised concerns among residents about how the object had been left in a public place.

CCTV footage being examined

Police suspect that someone may have deliberately placed the empty dynamite stick near the footpath to create panic among residents.

A case has been registered, and investigators are examining CCTV footage from the surrounding areas to identify the person responsible for leaving the object at the spot.

The investigation is under way to establish how the dynamite stick reached the area and whether it was intentionally abandoned to cause alarm.
