In a tragic incident, a 26-year-old woman in Andhra Pradesh died by suicide, with police later arresting her fiancé, a Bengaluru-based tech professional, along with his parents on charges of abetment to suicide.

The deceased, identified in reports as Rehana, had recently completed her MSc degree and was engaged in February to Shahjahan, originally from Kadapa district.

According to police, the wedding had been scheduled for August this year.

Allegations of sudden behaviour change

Family members alleged that the accused’s behaviour changed sharply in recent weeks. They claimed he told Rehana that he had no feelings for her and pressured her to call off the marriage.

The family further alleged that he spoke of previous relationships and personal issues, causing severe emotional distress.

Reports stated that the woman left behind a 12-page note describing her mental anguish and holding him responsible for her decision.

Police action taken

Following a complaint filed by the woman’s father, police in Kadapa registered a case and launched an investigation.

Authorities later arrested Shahjahan and his parents. They were produced before a local court and remanded to judicial custody.

The woman’s body was shifted to Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences for post-mortem examination.

Mental health concerns highlighted

The case has once again raised concerns about emotional abuse, relationship pressure and mental wellbeing among young adults.

Experts often urge families and individuals to seek timely counselling support when signs of distress, depression or emotional manipulation emerge.
