A 39-year-old Indian techie, who has spent 13 years in the USA, is now contemplating a significant life change: leaving his high-paying job and relocating with his wife and three children to India. In a Reddit post shared on the ‘India’ subreddit, the man expressed his desire to live a slower, more meaningful life, away from the high stress of his current job. He also sought advice from the online community about moving to Bengaluru, a city he’s considering for his fresh start.

The man shared that despite earning a substantial salary, the pressure of his high-stress job has led to burnout. With a side hustle providing passive income that could sustain his family comfortably in India, he hopes to semi-retire and devote more time to his children. He also expressed concern over the challenges his family might face upon moving to India, particularly regarding his white wife and mixed-race children, fearing they might face societal prejudice.

Choosing the Right City in India
While Bengaluru was his preferred destination, he also considered Pune and Hyderabad as alternatives. For Bengaluru, he was eyeing the Varthur area, known for its proximity to major IT hubs, and was willing to pay up to ₹3.5 lakh per month for a 4BHK or 5BHK home. His main concern was finding a suitable neighborhood where his family could feel comfortable.

Mixed Reactions from Reddit Users
The post quickly garnered attention, with users offering both advice and concerns. Many pointed out potential challenges his wife and children might face, particularly due to cultural differences and the possibility of staring or unsolicited attention in public spaces. One user shared their own experience, warning that “integration is impossible” and suggested he reconsider the move for the sake of his family’s comfort.

Others advised him to explore life in Europe or another country, highlighting issues such as pollution, infrastructure challenges, and societal discomfort. While some sympathized with his burnout, they cautioned that the realities of life in India might make the adjustment harder than anticipated.

Despite the mixed feedback, the post sparked a larger conversation about life balance, the pressures of high-paying jobs, and the challenges of relocating families across continents.
