Financial troubles and employment struggles were at the core of a brutal murder in Bengaluru, where a tech professional allegedly killed his wife, stuffed her body into a suitcase, and fled to Maharashtra, police sources revealed.
Gauri Anil Sambekar, who had quit her previous job, was actively seeking employment. This became a constant source of conflict between her and her husband, Rakesh, a project manager at Hitachi, as he was the only breadwinner.
On March 26, a bitter argument spiraled out of control. During the altercation, Rakesh reportedly slapped Gauri, prompting her to hurl a knife at him, causing a minor injury. In a fit of rage, Rakesh seized the same knife and repeatedly stabbed her, leading to her death. He then packed her body into a suitcase and hid it in their bathroom.
Shortly after, Rakesh confessed the crime to a carpenter residing below his apartment, who in turn informed the landlord. The property owner immediately contacted the police. Rakesh also called his father and admitted to the murder.
Fleeing to Pune in his car, Rakesh later surrendered at Shirwal Police Station after consuming poison. He was rushed to Satara Hospital for treatment and later moved to Sassoon Hospital in Pune.
Bengaluru police are monitoring his condition. Once he stabilizes, he will be brought back for legal proceedings. Investigators discovered that he had initially planned to dispose of the body in his car but failed.
