A Bengaluru court has ordered registration of an FIR against G Parameshwara over an alleged betting remark made during a recent state-level PU kabaddi tournament held in Tumakuru.
The order was issued by the 42nd Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Court after a private complaint was filed by H R Nagabhushan. The court has directed police to initiate a probe into the matter.
Remark made after kabaddi final
During the tournament, Dakshina Kannada defeated Vijayapura 36-26 in the boys’ final.
After presenting the prizes, Mr Parameshwara reportedly joked that he had lost ₹500 after placing a bet with the Deputy Commissioner that the Vijayapura team would win the match.
The statement later drew attention and became the subject of legal scrutiny.
Court directs police probe
The magistrate court directed Kodigehalli Police to register a case and carry out a detailed investigation.
Officials have also been asked to examine the circumstances under which the remark was made and whether any offence was committed under applicable laws.
Political reactions likely
The development is expected to trigger political debate, given that the matter concerns a senior minister in the state government. No detailed public response from Mr Parameshwara had been reported immediately after the court order.
The case now moves to the investigation stage, where police are expected to submit findings before the court after completing their inquiry.
