A major fire suspected to have been triggered by a short circuit gutted 19 electric vehicles in the basement of a commercial building in Yelachenahalli, off Kanakapura Road, on Thursday morning. Fortunately, no casualties were reported.

Firefighting operation

The Fire and Emergency Services Department received an alert around 7:45 am and rushed two fire tenders to the spot. Firefighters battled the flames for several hours before bringing the blaze under control.

A senior fire officer said preliminary investigations point to a short circuit as the likely cause. The basement of the building was reportedly being used as a showroom for electric vehicles.

Past incident

The blaze comes close on the heels of another major fire in Bengaluru, where furniture worth ₹5 crore was gutted in Malleswaram earlier this week.

Authorities are expected to conduct a detailed probe into Thursday’s incident to assess damages and establish the exact cause.
