Bengaluru: A dispute over the installation of a signboard at a rented commercial property in central Bengaluru escalated into a violent clash on Wednesday, leaving three people critically injured. Police have arrested five persons in connection with the incident.
The clash took place in Vinoba Nagar on JC Road, under the jurisdiction of the Kalasipalya Police Station.
Dispute over shop signboard
According to police, Mohammed Maula, the owner of the commercial property, had leased the premises to Asghar, who was running a business from the shop.
The dispute began when Maula attempted to install a signboard on the property. Asghar objected, claiming that as the tenant, he had the right to display the establishment’s signboard.
Police said the argument soon turned physical, with Maula allegedly assaulting Asghar.
Clash leaves three critically injured
Investigators said Asghar later returned to the spot with a group of supporters, leading to a violent confrontation between the two groups.
During the clash, longs and machetes were allegedly used as weapons.
Three people sustained grievous injuries and were admitted to hospital, where they remain in critical condition, police said.
Police probe ongoing
Police said Mohammed Maula owns several buildings and commercial establishments in the locality and that disputes over tenancy issues had previously led to confrontations between the two groups.
The Kalasipalya Police have registered a case and arrested five individuals.
Investigators are collecting CCTV footage and examining videos recorded during the incident to establish the sequence of events and identify any additional persons involved.
Further investigation is underway.
