A Bengaluru-based tech professional shared his dismay after relocating to Ahmedabad, highlighting the contrasting work cultures. With only 15 days’ notice, the move exposed him to what he described as greed, pretentiousness, and exploitation in the city.

“Ahmedabad is unbearable—a barren place devoid of like-minded individuals,” he lamented online. “Bengaluru offered a dynamic, intellectually stimulating life. Moving here under compulsion was a grave error, and undoing this decision feels almost impossible.”

The professional described Bengaluru as a hub of brilliance and simplicity, boasting a well-organized lifestyle. In contrast, Ahmedabad seemed dominated by ostentatious behavior, family-run companies, and questionable professional ethics. He accused businesses of exploiting employees and pointed out a tendency to flaunt wealth often sourced from borrowed funds.

The lack of community spaces, like Bengaluru’s bookstalls and parks, further disappointed him. Ahmedabad’s IT scene also lacked the co-working culture he valued, with meetups focused on elementary topics. While he acknowledged the presence of knowledgeable experts, he claimed many avoided engaging with what he called a “low-quality crowd.”

His sentiments resonated widely, with others sharing their own struggles adapting to Ahmedabad’s business-oriented mindset, often fueled by generational wealth. Some locals even suggested Surat and Vadodara offer better living experiences.

Bengaluru’s top spot on the 2024 Ease of Living Index underscores the stark contrast, reinforcing its reputation for innovation and inclusivity.
