Karnataka’s Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar has announced that more than 5.3 lakh properties in Bengaluru have already been issued e-Khatas. This digital certificate confirms property ownership, helping create a transparent and fair record system.
Starting 1 July, every property under BBMP’s jurisdiction must possess an e-Khata to apply for building approvals or process ownership transfers. The initiative will continue throughout July, with dedicated help centres, called “melas,” established across all wards. Staff at these melas will guide property owners through the process.
To obtain your e-Khata, you can either visit a ward mela in person or use the E-Aasthi online portal. You’ll need to upload key documents such as your Aadhaar card, sale deed, property photograph, and encumbrance certificate. You must also confirm your property’s location using the online map and complete Aadhaar e-KYC verification.
After submission, officials will examine your application, resolve any discrepancies, and deliver your e-Khata digitally via SMS or email.
This change is crucial because, from July onwards, an e-Khata or Electronic Property ID (EPID) will be mandatory for applying for any building plan permissions. The upgraded system will automatically validate your property records, removing the need to file physical paperwork.
Authorities say the drive will help curb fraud, minimise corruption, and speed up approvals by making property data easily accessible and more reliable for everyone involved.
