A gang of unidentified miscreants allegedly intercepted a private company employee’s car and looted Rs 26 lakh in cash on the Bengaluru-Mysuru National Highway near Madduru town in Mandya district.

The victim, identified as Govindraju, works for a Mysuru-based private company and was reportedly travelling to Bengaluru in an i20 car to deliver cash to another firm when the robbery took place.

According to police, the incident occurred around 7 pm on Saturday near Aishwarya Convent on the outskirts of Madduru. Investigators suspect that the accused had been following the victim’s vehicle in an Innova car before carrying out the robbery.

The gang allegedly blocked the i20 car on the highway, smashed its windows and threatened Govindraju with deadly weapons. The accused then forcibly took away Rs 26 lakh in cash before fleeing the scene.

Following the incident, Govindraju alerted the Madduru police, who rushed to the spot and conducted a preliminary inspection. Circle Inspector Naveen and his team collected initial evidence and registered a case.

Mandya Superintendent of Police VJ Shobharani has formed a special investigation team to trace and arrest the accused. The probe is being supervised by Additional Superintendent of Police Thimmayya and DySP Yashwanth Kumar.

Police are currently examining CCTV footage from nearby locations and verifying possible escape routes used by the gang. Further investigation is underway
