Robbery in Yelahanka shocks residents
Bengaluru, a major robbery was reported on Friday after a four-member gang, posing as government officials, stormed into a residence in Yelahanka and escaped with Rs 1.5 crore in cash and 50 grams of gold jewellery. The incident has left local residents shocked and raised concerns over rising cases of crime involving impersonation.
How the gang executed the crime
According to police, the accused arrived at the victim’s home in Yelahanka claiming to be officials conducting a raid. Gaining entry under the pretext of official duty, they threatened the occupants and quickly collected the cash and jewellery. Within minutes, the gang left the spot, leaving the family shaken.
Preliminary investigations suggest the gang may have had prior knowledge of large amounts of cash being stored in the house. Police are probing whether an insider tip-off was involved.
Police investigation underway
The Yelahanka police have registered a case and launched a manhunt for the culprits. CCTV footage from nearby streets is being scanned to identify the vehicle and track the suspects. Forensic teams were also called to collect evidence from the crime scene.
A senior police officer said, “We are investigating from multiple angles, including whether the gang has carried out similar offences in other parts of the city. The public is advised to immediately verify the credentials of anyone posing as government officials before allowing entry.”
Rising trend of impersonation crimes
This is not the first time Bengaluru has reported such an incident. Police records show a growing number of cases where gangs impersonate government or enforcement officials to gain access to residences and businesses. Such cases have been reported in areas like Whitefield, Jayanagar, and Hebbal in recent months.
Law enforcement authorities have urged residents to stay alert, particularly when approached by strangers claiming to be officials, and to demand proper identification.
Conclusion
The Yelahanka robbery highlights the increasing sophistication of urban crime in Bengaluru, with gangs resorting to impersonation and planned strikes. Police have assured that the culprits will be tracked down soon, but the incident has left residents concerned about safety and the need for stronger preventive measures.
