In South Bengaluru, improper garbage disposal by the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) led to significant issues on the Bannerghatta main road in BTM Layout after heavy rains on August 12. Approximately 50 meters of the road was covered with garbage, causing drains to clog and resulting in water stagnation.

Residents, including Vijay Sai Reddy, have long complained about the BBMP’s failure to address the garbage issue. Reddy mentioned that despite repeated complaints, no action was taken. The accumulation of waste has led to problems such as school buses refusing to drop children near their homes. The situation only improved when they escalated the matter to the area’s MLA CK Ramamurthy and the former corporator.

The delay in garbage clearance, attributed to the absence of an active corporator, highlights the difficulties residents face in getting timely responses from the BBMP. The garbage was eventually cleared within two hours after intervention by local officials, but the incident underscores the need for more effective waste management and prompt action from authorities.
