A suspected LPG gas leak triggered a fire at a residential apartment building in central Bengaluru on Tuesday afternoon, causing panic among residents. Fortunately, no casualties or injuries were reported as the occupants managed to escape before the blaze spread.

According to Fire and Emergency Services officials, an alert about the fire at a G+3 apartment complex near Garuda Mall was received at 3.23 pm. A fire tender was dispatched within a minute and reached the spot promptly to bring the blaze under control.

Fire broke out during cooking

Preliminary investigations indicate that the fire originated in a top-floor apartment occupied by a family of four.

Officials suspect that an LPG gas leak occurred while cooking was underway. The leaking gas is believed to have ignited, setting the LPG pipe on fire before the flames spread to the gas cylinder.

The family acted swiftly and evacuated the apartment safely before the fire intensified, preventing any injuries.

Firefighters prevent major disaster

Firefighters managed to extinguish the blaze in time, preventing it from spreading to neighbouring apartments in the building.

Although the apartment sustained partial damage, timely intervention by the Fire and Emergency Services helped avert what could have been a major tragedy.

The incident caused panic among other residents, who were temporarily evacuated as a precaution while firefighting operations were carried out.

Investigation underway

Officials said the exact cause of the fire is yet to be confirmed. A detailed investigation has been launched to determine whether the blaze was caused solely by an LPG gas leak or if any other factors contributed to the incident.

Authorities have urged residents to regularly inspect LPG connections, pipes and cylinders and to follow basic fire safety measures while cooking to minimise the risk of such accidents.
