The BSLA TeenzCup 2025 concluded with a powerful message on gender equality as a girls’ football team competed alongside boys in the same tournament, breaking long-held stereotypes within the local sporting community. While the girls did not clinch the title, their determination and sportsmanship became the highlight of the event, inspiring hundreds of young athletes and parents who witnessed their spirited performance.

Organised by the Bengaluru Sports and Learning Academy (BSLA), the annual tournament saw enthusiastic participation from 16 teams, all of whom played for a noble cause — supporting underprivileged children through sports-driven social initiatives.

Spirit of inclusion highlighted at the tournament

For weeks leading up to the tournament, Bengaluru’s sporting circles had been discussing whether girls could effectively compete with boys at the same level. The TeenzCup 2025 answered the question decisively. Although the girls’ team did not win, their skills, discipline and confidence received overwhelming appreciation from spectators and participants alike.

This year, Padiyappa FC emerged as the champions, securing the BSLA TeenzCup 2025 trophy, while Stallions Football Academy finished as the runners-up. However, BSLA organisers stressed that each player, regardless of the scoreboard, represented the true spirit of youth sports.

According to BSLA General Manager Suman Baruah, every participant deserves acclaim.
“All 16 team members are our heroes,” he said, emphasising that the purpose of the TeenzCup went far beyond competition.

Tournament driven by a noble cause

The TeenzCup 2025 was not just another football event. Organisers highlighted that the tournament was dedicated to raising awareness and support for underprivileged children, making it both a sporting and social initiative.

Event organiser Payel Sengupta spoke about the challenges faced while putting the tournament together.
“We had to struggle a lot to organise this tournament. People laughed at us, questioned us, abused us — but I shall stick to my views, mission and vision. I don’t copy any format; rather, I create my own for the betterment of our society,” she said, reflecting on the journey.

BSLA members reiterated that the girls’ participation symbolised equality, courage and the evolving sports culture in Bengaluru, where young athletes are increasingly encouraged to break gender barriers.

Community support made the event a success

The successful execution of the tournament was made possible through contributions and support from several individuals and organisations. BSLA extended gratitude to Dr Praveen Reddy for medical assistance throughout the event. Acknowledgements were also given to Mr Antony Sajeeth, Mr Arunabha Ghose, the dedicated women of Team Abhaya, Mr Brijesh Gokhale of News Karnataka, and the India Now team for backing the initiative and amplifying its impact.

Volunteers, coaches, parents and young athletes together contributed to a vibrant tournament atmosphere. The presence of community leaders and media partners further strengthened the message of gender equality and youth empowerment in sports.

BSLA announces next initiative for social welfare

Encouraged by the success of the TeenzCup 2025, BSLA announced its upcoming event — a Veterans Football Tournament aimed at supporting an old-age home. Organisers said the official poster will be released soon and urged the community to continue supporting their initiatives focused on sports, youth development and social welfare.

The TeenzCup 2025 thus ended with more than just winners and runners-up. It delivered a powerful statement about inclusivity, resilience and the ability of young athletes — girls and boys alike — to lead meaningful change through sports.
