Bengaluru: In a heartwarming display of resilience and camaraderie, between 750 and 1,000 dialysis patients benefiting from the state’s free treatment program came together at Kanteerava Stadium on Sunday morning to participate in indoor games and recreational activities.
Healthcare & Accessibility
The health department, in collaboration with Nephro Care Health Service Pvt Ltd, launched a public-private partnership (PPP) model on December 6, 2023, ensuring no-cost dialysis services at government hospitals in Bengaluru and Mysuru.
A health official shared that 57 centers equipped with 250 dialysis machines were set up in Bengaluru Urban, while Mysuru received 56 centers with 222 machines. Under this initiative, the government reimburses Rs 1,573 per dialysis cycle to the service provider, offering treatment at zero cost to both Above Poverty Line (APL) and Below Poverty Line (BPL) patients.
Expanding Rural Healthcare
Health and Family Welfare Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao praised the model on social media, emphasizing the state’s commitment to healthcare access. He highlighted that single-use dialysis services have been expanded to rural areas, ensuring safer and more convenient treatment options.
The initiative has been widely appreciated, especially among rural communities, for making lifesaving care more accessible and reducing the financial burden on families.
