In Bengaluru, the horrific murder of Mahalakshmi has drawn unsettling comparisons to the Shraddha Walkar case. Mukti Ranjan Roy, the main suspect, is believed to have found inspiration from disturbing content on social media depicting similar crimes.
Mahalakshmi’s body lay concealed in a refrigerator for 18 days, dismembered into 59 pieces allegedly with a cleaver by Mukti Ranjan, who fled the city shortly after the brutal act. Their tumultuous six-month relationship was marked by frequent arguments and physical confrontations, prompting multiple complaints to the local police.
On the night of September 3, Mahalakshmi confronted Mukti about his refusal to marry her, heightening tensions. Already married to Hemanth and having a young daughter, Mahalakshmi’s past affairs added to Mukti’s suspicions. Following the fatal dispute, he reportedly remained with her corpse overnight, contemplating disposal methods while watching videos for guidance.
CCTV footage captured him buying the murder weapon the next morning. After turning off his phone, Mukti went into hiding, later confessing to his brother about the murder and seeking financial assistance to flee to Odisha.
On September 25, he was discovered hanging from a tree in Odisha, with a suicide note admitting to the crime. This shocking case has prompted extensive investigations between police in both Karnataka and Odisha, revealing a tragic story of rage and desperation.
