In an inspiring story of determination and entrepreneurship, a young man from Thane has transformed a humble street-side dosa stall into a thriving business generating nearly Rs 12 lakh in monthly profit.

Ganesh Sathe chose an unconventional path when he decided to step away from preparations for his Chartered Accountancy examination. Realising that a traditional office job was not his dream, he borrowed Rs 50,000 from his family and set out to build a food business centred around his mother’s beloved benne dosa recipe.

A dream inspired by family

With support from his sister Sapna, Ganesh converted an old cart into a food stall and launched his venture, known as The Benne. His vision was simple: serve high-quality benne dosas made using authentic white butter and family recipes.

The business officially began operations in October 2025, but success did not come immediately.

Struggles before success

The stall faced stiff competition from popular food trucks selling trendy snacks and fast-food items. On some days, sales reportedly dropped to just Rs 200, leaving the siblings wondering whether to shut down the business.

Instead of giving up, they focused on improving product quality and customer experience. They also began documenting their entrepreneurial journey on social media, sharing behind-the-scenes stories and videos of their food preparation.

Social media changes everything

The strategy paid off. As their content gained popularity online, more customers started visiting the stall. Positive word-of-mouth further boosted their reputation, helping them build a loyal customer base.

Today, The Benne serves nearly 400 customers daily, with its dosas often selling out within hours.

A lesson in persistence

What started as a small family venture has grown into a profitable enterprise generating around Rs 40,000 in daily revenue and approximately Rs 12 lakh in monthly profit.

Ganesh’s journey highlights how passion, perseverance and family support can turn a simple idea into a successful business, proving that sometimes the biggest rewards come from taking a chance on one’s dreams.
