A 47-year-old head constable from the City Armed Reserve (CAR) Headquarters, Hanumantharaju, was assaulted by a scooterist after advising him to ride safely near Sirsi Circle on Monday evening.
Hanumantharaju was on his way to work when he noticed a man riding a Suzuki Access scooter recklessly in slow-moving traffic. Concerned about the safety of other motorists, he asked the rider to slow down. The scooterist, identified as Rakesh, a 32-year-old gym trainer, became enraged and followed the constable’s car.
After following him, Rakesh intercepted Hanumantharaju’s car, kicked him, and struck him in the chest and abdomen. He then fled the scene. The injured constable sought medical treatment at Victoria Hospital and later filed a complaint with Cottonpet police.
Based on the scooter’s registration number, the police tracked down Rakesh and arrested him. He has been remanded in judicial custody. The case has been registered under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including causing hurt, wrongful restraint, assaulting a public servant, and intentional insult.
Rakesh told the police that he was not shouting but was merely trying to pass through the traffic. However, the authorities are investigating the matter further.
