A Sunday downpour flooded Manyata Tech Park — one of Bengaluru’s largest IT hubs — and its surrounding roads, while 17 trees were uprooted citywide. Water rushed through internal roads of the tech park, pooling near a ramp inside the premises. Being a weekend, disruptions were minimal compared to a weekday.

The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) logged 49 rain-related complaints: 17 for uprooted trees and 32 for fallen branches. Of these, 38 were cleared by evening. Yelahanka and Byatarayanapura were worst-hit, each reporting six cases. Other affected areas included Hebbal, Mahadevapura, KR Pura, Jayanagar, and parts of the west zone. One car was damaged in Sahakaranagar.

A ramp near Hebbal towards Airport Road was waterlogged, with civic teams deployed for clearance. According to the India Meteorological Department, HAL Airport recorded 13.5 mm of rain, while Bengaluru City observatory saw 12.3 mm. Built on low-lying land once part of the city’s lake network, Manyata Tech Park is prone to flooding during heavy rains, especially when stormwater drains overflow or get blocked.

Last month, BBMP issued notices to Manyata Promoters Pvt Ltd and other Nagawara property owners to remove alleged encroachments on a stormwater drain connected to the tech park. The directive followed a survey marking the original drain alignment, with work to restore it ordered from July 10.

Traffic police reported slower movement on key stretches, including Ramamurthy Nagar, Hebbal, Nagawara Junction, and City Market Circle. Weekend timing limited major traffic snarls.
