Bengaluru: Three individuals heading to Bengaluru’s Kempegowda International Airport for a flight to Goa lost their lives in a tragic accident on NICE Road near Kengeri on Monday. The deceased were identified as Nanje Gowda (45), Kumar (35), and Vinod (41), all residents of Kanakapura town in Karnataka’s Ramanagara district. Vinod was a member of the zilla panchayat.
The accident occurred around 3:45 pm. Kumar was driving a Mahindra Scorpio at a speed of approximately 160 km/h when he lost control of the vehicle. According to a police officer, the Scorpio’s tyres grazed the side of the median, causing the vehicle to topple over to the other side of the road and collide with an oncoming Mahindra XUV700.
M N Anucheth, Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic), reported that the speedometer of the Scorpio had stopped at 164 km/h. The Scorpio did not have airbags, whereas the XUV700’s airbags deployed, which likely saved the lives of its occupants. Shivaramakrishna and Prasanna, the occupants of the XUV700, sustained injuries in the collision.
In a separate incident, a 42-year-old man named Devaraj from Kunigal in Tumakuru district died after a minibus collided with a parked truck near Electronics City. Five other occupants of the minibus were injured in the accident.
