A horrific crime has sent shockwaves through Bengaluru after a woman’s lifeless body was discovered inside a suitcase at a residence near Hulimavu. The victim, 32-year-old Gauri Anil Sambekar, was allegedly killed by her husband, Rakesh Sambekar, who hails from Maharashtra. Authorities have apprehended him in Pune, sources revealed.
Reports suggest that Rakesh personally informed Gauri’s parents about the murder during a phone conversation. Maharashtra Police, acting on this lead, alerted their counterparts in Bengaluru, prompting an immediate investigation.
At approximately 5:30 pm, the Hulimavu control room received a distress call regarding a possible suicide. Upon arrival, officers found the house locked from the outside. After gaining entry, they discovered a suitcase inside the bathroom.
Forensic specialists were called to the scene, and upon unzipping the suitcase, they found Gauri’s body. “The body was intact, though there were severe injuries,” confirmed senior police officer Sarah Fatima. “The exact nature of the wounds will be determined once the postmortem report is available.”
Authorities initially struggled to locate Rakesh but tracked him down using call records. Pune police detained him, and a team from Bengaluru has been dispatched to bring him back for further questioning.
The couple had moved to Bengaluru only two months ago. Rakesh worked as a project manager at an IT firm, while Gauri was seeking employment. The motive behind the murder remains under investigation.
