Sudarshan Kamath, founder of Bengaluru-based startup Smallest AI, has created a buzz on X by advertising an unconventional tech lead role that ditches the usual recruitment playbook.

The position offers a ₹1 crore annual compensation package, comprising ₹60 lakh fixed salary and ₹40 lakh in equity benefits. Notably, candidates don’t need a college degree or a formal résumé. Instead, applicants are simply asked to share a 100-word self-introduction and links to their best projects.

The role requires at least 4-5 years of hands-on experience in coding with Next.js, Python, and React.js. Kamath added that familiarity with scaling systems “from 0 to 100” would be a major plus.

This full-time office role is based in Bengaluru, operating five days a week with some flexibility. Kamath’s candid and informal tone—captioned “Hiring a cracked full-stack lead at Smallest AI”—struck a chord online.

Within hours, the post garnered over 60,000 views and drew hundreds of comments. Some applauded the direct approach, while others debated the compensation. One user noted, “₹3.4 lakh per month is good for a bachelor, but average if you’re married.” Another joked, “You said cracked! I’m in!”

Several users also suggested that hybrid options would make the offer more attractive.

The viral listing has been praised for challenging traditional hiring practices and valuing skills over degrees, setting a precedent for India’s fast-evolving startup culture.
