Bengaluru: In a deeply disturbing incident from Bengaluru, popular Kannada television actress and anchor Manjula Shruthi, renowned for her performance in serials like Amruthadhaare, was violently assaulted by her husband over suspicions of infidelity.

The attack occurred on July 4 at Muneshwara Layout, falling under the Hanumanthnagar police limits, but has only recently come to public attention.

Manjula and her husband Amresh had been married for nearly two decades following a long-term romantic relationship. The couple, who have two children, were residing in a rented apartment in Hanumanthnagar. Tensions reportedly had been brewing for some time due to marital discord and mistrust.

Around three months ago, Shruthi had moved in with her brother after separating from Amresh. There had also been disputes related to house lease funds, prompting her to file a police complaint.

Despite their strained relationship, the couple decided to reconcile last Thursday. Tragically, on the very next day, with their children away at college, Amresh allegedly launched a horrific assault. He is accused of spraying pepper, then stabbing her multiple times in the neck, thigh, and ribs, and slamming her head against a wall.

Shruthi is currently receiving treatment at Victoria Hospital, and her condition is being closely monitored.

The Hanumanthnagar police have registered a case of attempted murder, and Amresh has been arrested. Authorities have confirmed that two domestic violence complaints involving the couple had already been lodged at the same station.

An investigation is underway.
