Bengaluru: The Karnataka government has announced the allocation of portfolios in the newly expanded Cabinet, with Chief Minister D. K. Shivakumar retaining the crucial Finance Department along with several key administrative responsibilities.
The portfolio allocation notification was issued by Governor Thawar Chand Gehlot on Thursday night, outlining the responsibilities assigned to ministers in the reshuffled Cabinet.
Shivakumar retains Finance and key departments
Under the new arrangement, Chief Minister D. K. Shivakumar will continue to oversee the Finance portfolio, one of the most significant departments in the state government.
In addition to Finance, he has been assigned Cabinet Affairs, the Department of Personnel and Administrative Reforms (DPAR), Intelligence, and all portfolios that remain unallocated.
The retention of Finance underscores Shivakumar’s central role in shaping the state’s fiscal policies and governance agenda.
Parameshwara gets Revenue and Sports
Deputy Chief Minister G. Parameshwara has been entrusted with the Revenue Department, a key portfolio responsible for land administration and revenue-related matters across the state.
He has also been allocated the Sports Department, placing him in charge of sports development initiatives and related programmes.
The assignment strengthens Parameshwara’s role in the government by giving him responsibility for two important sectors.
Krishna Byre Gowda takes charge of Bengaluru Development
Minister Krishna Byre Gowda has been assigned the Greater Bengaluru Development portfolio.
The department plays a crucial role in planning and implementing infrastructure projects, urban development initiatives and governance reforms in Bengaluru, one of India’s fastest-growing metropolitan cities.
The allocation is considered significant given the importance of Bengaluru’s infrastructure and urban management challenges.
Priyank Kharge entrusted with Home portfolio
Senior Congress leader Priyank Kharge has been given charge of the Home Department.
The portfolio places him at the helm of law and order, internal security, police administration and public safety across Karnataka.
The Home Department is regarded as one of the most influential ministries in any state government, making the allocation a major responsibility for Kharge.
Cabinet reshuffle follows expansion
The portfolio distribution comes shortly after the expansion of the Karnataka Cabinet, which saw several leaders inducted into the ministry.
The reshuffle was aimed at balancing administrative responsibilities among senior leaders while strengthening governance across key sectors.
Political observers note that the allocation reflects the leadership’s efforts to distribute influential portfolios among experienced ministers while maintaining strategic control over critical departments.
Focus on governance and development
With the portfolio allocation now finalised, the state government is expected to focus on infrastructure development, fiscal management, urban planning and public welfare programmes.
The Finance Department under the Chief Minister will play a pivotal role in implementing budgetary priorities, while departments such as Revenue, Home and Greater Bengaluru Development will be central to the government’s governance agenda.
The new allocation is expected to shape Karnataka’s administrative and developmental priorities in the coming months.
