The Karnataka government is exploring the possibility of hosting its upcoming cabinet meeting amid the scenic landscapes of Nandi Hills on June 19 — or shortly thereafter — depending on the readiness of infrastructure, sources said.

Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister H.K. Patil confirmed the plan is under consideration. “We’re working on it. There’s a large hall available which we intend to use,” he stated.

The venue has recently undergone substantial renovations, revamping facilities originally built for the 1986 SAARC Summit — a forgotten footnote in the hill station’s legacy. A team of officials has been deployed to inspect and finalize logistics, much like previous offsite cabinet meetings held in Kalaburagi and Male Mahadeshwara Hills.

Holding cabinet meetings beyond Bengaluru isn’t new. Past chief ministers like J.H. Patel, S.M. Krishna, and R. Gundu Rao had taken the cabinet out of Vidhana Soudha, convening in locations such as Tippagondanahalli and HD Kote. Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao recalled that his father’s government once held cabinet sessions across all major divisional HQs.

This time, local issues could take center stage. Topics likely to be discussed include tourism promotion, heritage conservation, and infrastructure upgrades for the Chikkaballapur district — a rapidly expanding urban belt.

District in-charge minister M.C. Sudhakar has instructed officials to enhance road connectivity to the hilltop venue. Preparations will kick off with a key meeting between the PWD secretary and district authorities on Tuesday.
