A Karnataka government engineer was allegedly found in possession of disproportionate assets worth ₹4.42 crore during raids conducted by the Lokayukta, officials said.

The accused has been identified as H.M. Janardhan, an engineer with the Karnataka Residential Educational Institutions Society (KREIS). According to sources, the assets discovered during the search operations are estimated to be 216 per cent higher than his known sources of income.

Cash and documents seized

Lokayukta officials carried out coordinated searches at locations linked to the officer following credible information regarding suspected irregularities. During the raids, a substantial quantity of unaccounted cash and documents related to assets were reportedly seized.

Preliminary assessment suggests that the total value of disproportionate assets has been pegged at ₹4.42 crore. Officials are in the process of verifying property records, bank transactions and other financial details to determine the full extent of the alleged irregularities.

Probe under way

A case has been registered under relevant provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act. Senior Lokayukta officials confirmed that further investigation is in progress to ascertain how the assets were acquired and whether additional persons are involved.

Authorities stated that the accused will be questioned as part of the ongoing probe.

The Lokayukta has reiterated its commitment to curbing corruption within public offices and ensuring accountability in government departments.
