The Karnataka government has undertaken a significant reshuffle of senior IAS and IPS officers following the formation of the new cabinet under Chief Minister D K Shivakumar.

The administrative changes, announced on Sunday, involve key appointments across several departments and are among the first major bureaucratic restructuring measures initiated by the new government.

Key IAS appointments announced

Senior IAS officer Anjum Parwez, who served as Additional Chief Secretary to the Chief Minister in the previous administration, has been appointed Additional Chief Secretary of the Forest, Ecology and Environment Department with immediate effect.

Following Chief Minister D K Shivakumar’s swearing-in on June 3, senior bureaucrat Tushar Girinath was appointed Additional Chief Secretary to the Chief Minister, succeeding Parwez.

The government has also entrusted Munish Moudgil, Special Commissioner of the Greater Bengaluru Authority, with the concurrent charge of Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister. The position has been granted status equivalent to a cadre post of Principal Secretary to the Government.

Transfers across departments

Among other administrative changes, Deepa Cholan has been transferred and posted as Secretary of the Transport Department. Cauvery B B, who was awaiting a posting, has been appointed to the vacancy created by her transfer.

Dr Venkatesh M V has been shifted from the Planning, Programme Monitoring and Statistics Department and appointed Registrar of Co-operative Societies.

Meanwhile, Dr Selvamani R, Managing Director of the Karnataka Urban Water Supply and Drainage Board, has been appointed Commissioner for Transport and Road Safety.

IPS officers also reassigned

In the IPS reshuffle, Pronab Mohanty, Director General of Police, Internal Security Division, has been transferred as Director General of Police, Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Special Units and Economic Offences. He has also been given concurrent charge of the CID in Bengaluru.

Chandragupta, who was serving as Inspector General of Police (Security), has been appointed Inspector General of Police (Intelligence), replacing Labhu Ram.

The reshuffle is being viewed as a key administrative exercise by the new government as it seeks to streamline governance and strengthen leadership across important departments and agencies.
