BENGALURU: As the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) is set to cease operations on Tuesday, the Karnataka government has sanctioned 16 IAS officers, two IPS officers, and 19 KAS officers for deployment across the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) and the five newly created municipal corporations. Appointments are expected to be made within the next couple of days.
IAS officers in key roles
Of the 16 IAS officers, five posts have been earmarked for the GBA. These include the Chief Commissioner and four Special Commissioners responsible for specific portfolios:
- Administration, revenue, and IT
- Health and education
- Elections, disaster management, public relations, and coordination
- Finance
Each of the five municipal corporations will have an IAS officer of secretary rank serving as the commissioner, assisted by a junior-rank IAS officer designated as Additional Commissioner (Development).
IPS officers to manage law and order
Two IPS officers will be posted in the GBA — one as Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) and the other as Superintendent of Police (SP) of the Bangalore Metropolitan Task Force (BMTF). They will be supported by a Deputy SP holding KSPS rank to oversee operations and ensure law and order.
KAS officers to handle administration and revenue
Of the 19 KAS officers, two will be posted in the GBA to manage administration, elections, and IT. The remaining 17 officers will be deployed across the five corporations to oversee revenue collection and serve as Additional Commissioners and Zonal Joint Commissioners.
Officials said these postings aim to ensure a smooth transition from BBMP to the new governance framework while maintaining administrative efficiency.
With the BBMP’s functions ending, this deployment marks a crucial step in operationalising the GBA and the new municipal corporations, ensuring governance, law enforcement, and revenue operations continue without disruption.
