Bengaluru: The Karnataka Transport Department will launch a strict crackdown on illegal bike taxi services across Bengaluru from Wednesday, following growing demands from app-based transport workers for stronger enforcement.
The decision was taken after senior Transport Department officials held a meeting with representatives of the Karnataka App Based Workers Union (KAWU) on Tuesday.
Action follows union’s strike warning
The meeting came after KAWU warned that it would launch a strike if authorities failed to take action against illegal bike taxi operations in the city.
The union has maintained that unauthorised bike taxi services violate existing transport regulations and create unfair competition for licensed transport operators.
Following discussions, the Transport Department assured the union that enforcement measures would begin immediately.
Illegal bike taxis under scanner
As part of the drive, transport officials are expected to intensify inspections across Bengaluru to identify and act against illegal bike taxi operators.
Authorities are likely to seize and impound vehicles found operating without valid permits or in violation of transport regulations. The enforcement campaign aims to ensure compliance with existing laws governing passenger transport services.

Officials said the crackdown is intended to curb unauthorised commercial operations and ensure that transport services comply with legal and safety requirements.
