Bengaluru/Bidar: A 12-year-old boy sustained injuries after being attacked by a leopard during a safari at Bannerghatta National Park (BNP) in Bengaluru on Friday.
According to officials, the leopard managed to climb onto a non-AC safari bus and struck at the child’s hand, which was within its reach through an opening. Park staff immediately provided first aid treatment and began checking for any further injuries.
Authorities at BNP stated that precautions had been taken earlier, including covering all mesh openings and camera slots, and issuing strict safety instructions to drivers of non-AC buses. Despite these measures, the unfortunate incident occurred.
Reacting to the case from Bidar, Minister for Forest, Ecology, and Environment Eshwar B Khandre said he has directed that all safari vehicles must be fitted with protective meshes on windows and camera openings. He further instructed that warning messages be printed on tickets and that visitors be clearly briefed about safety protocols before the ride.
Officials confirmed that an immediate review of safari safety measures is underway to prevent such incidents in the future, while the boy continues to recover under medical supervision.
