The Kempegowda International Airport Police have registered a case against a 32-year-old man for allegedly posting abusive and misleading content about the Bengaluru City Police on social media, along with unruly behaviour during a flight.
Social media posts under scrutiny
According to police, the issue surfaced on March 23 during routine monitoring of social media platforms. Officials identified a user with the handle @Utkarshgautam96 posting abusive remarks targeting the Bengaluru City Police. One of the posts allegedly called for action against the department using offensive language.
Further investigation revealed that the accused, identified as Utkarsh Gautam, had also shared content on Instagram making derogatory claims against the police. He reportedly alleged that he had been illegally detained at the airport police station—claims that authorities have termed false and misleading.

Earlier, on March 22, a complaint was filed by staff of IndiGo regarding Gautam’s conduct on flight 6E373 operating between Jaipur and Bengaluru. He allegedly attempted to open the aircraft’s rear safety door (AFT L2) while the flight was in the air.
Cabin crew reported that the passenger behaved aggressively and used abusive language when confronted. The incident raised serious concerns over passenger safety and adherence to aviation norms.
Legal action initiated
Based on the airline’s complaint, police registered a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including Sections 351(2) and 352, which deal with assault and use of criminal force.
The accused was detained by airport police and later handed over to the jurisdictional police for further investigation. Officials confirmed that his background was verified and a non-cognisable case was registered.
Police added that spreading false information about law enforcement on social media further aggravated the offence, and strict action will be taken as per the law.
