Bengaluru: Panic gripped an under-construction Namma Metro site near Marathahalli in Bengaluru after a mentally unstable man climbed atop a crane and entered the operator’s cabin late on Sunday night.
The incident occurred at around 10.45 pm, briefly disrupting work at the construction site before workers managed to bring the man down and alerted the police.
Man enters crane operator’s cabin
According to police, the man, who was roaming in a semi-nude condition, climbed the crane at the metro construction site and entered the operator’s cabin.
Site workers noticed him and acted immediately to prevent any further danger. They brought him down from the crane, restrained him and allegedly assaulted him before informing the HAL police.
Police say man was mentally unstable
A senior police officer said the man appeared to be mentally unstable. Although the crane cabin sustained minor damage during the incident, no injuries were reported.
Police took the man into custody and are looking into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
No FIR registered
The Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has not lodged a formal complaint regarding the incident.
“As BMRCL has not filed any complaint, no FIR has been registered. The man was found to be mentally unstable,” a senior police officer said.
With no complaint from the metro authorities, police have not initiated any criminal case. The incident, however, raised concerns over security arrangements at major infrastructure construction sites in the city.
