A 27-year-old man allegedly died after being brutally assaulted by his ex-lover’s husband and relatives in Bengaluru’s Shyamanna Garden area, police said.
The deceased has been identified as Mohammed Kashif, a resident of Beedi Colony in Ramanagara district who worked as a painter.
According to police, Kashif was previously in a relationship with a woman, but they later separated. Around four years ago, the woman married Mohammed Akbar and has been living with him and his family in Shyamanna Garden.
Assault allegedly took place during visit
Based on a complaint filed by Kashif’s younger brother Mohammed Imran, the woman allegedly contacted Kashif on May 25 and asked him to visit her residence.
Kashif reportedly went to meet her in the evening. While they were speaking, the woman’s husband, his brothers, relatives and friends allegedly confronted Kashif and assaulted him.
The complaint alleged that the group brutally attacked Kashif and later forced him to sign a blank sheet of paper while warning him not to contact the woman again.
Local residents reportedly intervened and dispersed the crowd. Kashif was later taken to a private hospital in Bapujinagar for treatment before family members brought him home.
Victim later died in hospital
According to the family, Kashif’s health worsened overnight as he complained of severe pain and breathing difficulties.
On the morning of May 26, he was shifted to another hospital and later referred to Ramanagara Government Hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead.
Byatarayanapura police have registered a murder case and are awaiting the post-mortem report for further investigation.
